Miami Heat Stuck In A “Must-Win” Mode

The Heat has placed several calls for urgency during a season that has left its playoff hopes on life support.

None has been as desperate as the one that rang from the locker room after Sunday’s loss at Orlando knocked the Heat out of a playoff seed for the first time this season.

Having lost four games in a row and sitting two games below .500 with 22 remaining, Miami (29-31) is in “must-win” mode amid four teams jockeying for one of the East’s final three playoff seeds.

But the Heat faces the stiffest climb with a combined 1-6 record against Milwaukee, Charlotte and Chicago.

Under normal circumstances, Miami would take comfort in the fact that it plays nine of its next 10 games at home, starting with Tuesday’s visit by Golden State.

But with an uninspiring 14-14 record at AmericanAirlines Arena, the Heat hasn’t necessarily benefited from home-court advantage.

“We have some big games coming up at home, and we have to try to take care of them,” said Heat guard Dwyane Wade, who returned to the lineup Sunday after missing four games with a strained left calf. “If we don’t take care of home, then we will find ourselves out of the playoff [picture] and unable to get back… Tuesday is a must-win game for us.”
