Chris Bosh Didn’t Commit To Team USA
It seems there was a miscommunication between USA Basketball czar Jerry Colangelo and Chris Bosh regarding the Raptors All-Star’s availability for the 2010 World Championships in Turkey.
Colangelo on Friday was quoted as saying that Bosh – a free agent as of July 1 – had committed to play this summer for Team USA. Bosh corrected that notion, citing his imminent free agency and fear of injury/lack of security in the interim as an obstacle.
“I’ll talk about that after (free agency),” said the power forward, who was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic squad that recaptured the gold medal.
“I don’t know where that came from. I got so many calls on that. I’m like, ‘Come on.’ Maybe the words got mixed up. It’s only smart, not to play (while unsigned) and risk injury.”
And if he re-signs quickly with the Raptors or commits elsewhere? Bosh still hedged.
“I mean, that’s a quick turnaround,” he added. “Negotiations start July 1. There’s a (USA) mini-camp in mid-July, and then a month later. It’s a very short window of time. So I just want to take care of my business on July 1, and there’s no telling how long that’s going to take.”
